Visaka Industries In Talks With State Government For Its Solar Panel Roofs For Cement Plants
Visaka Industries, one of the largest producers of fibre cement boards in India, is currently in discussions with different state governments for usage of their integrated solar panel with a concrete base as roofs in the state's affordable housing projects.
The states they are in talks with are West Bengal, Delhi and Telangana. They are already setting up a manufacturing plant based in Telangana for this purpose.
The Joint Managing Director of Visaka Industries, Vamsi Gaddam, “While we have already submitted proposals to the three state governments, Telangana government has responded positively and has asked us to carry out pilot projects to 3 houses each in Sangareddy and Yadadri districts which are being constructed under the government’s 2BHK scheme”.
Their new product, Atum solar roofing system, would be targeting enterprises and industries that have metal roofs at their facilities. Atum solar roofing system will help reduce thermal conductivity relative to the usual metal roofing and will thus reduce energy usage, the company said in a press release during the product launch which was well attended, including the CEO of Dr Reddy Laboratories, G.V Prasad.
The company has invested about Rs.10 crore in their new plant based in Miryalguda. The facility is projected to become operational in the next three months. The solar roofing system, with its imported components, would cost about ₹700/sq ft. Gaddam said that 1 lakh sq ft could generate about 1 MW power annually.
During an interactive session, Gaddam was very confident of Atum gaining popularity against the backdrop of aluminium and metal roofs increasing becoming redundant while solar roofs are catching up. Gaddam said, “The 60 megawatt per annum capacity plant will cater to the industrial segment, and later on we will look at tapping the residential roofing solutions market.” Recommended By Colombia

Vice President of Visaka Industries and former Member of Parliament, G. Vivekanand, said that the company is also establishing a plant for the manufacture of V-Next products based out of Haryana. He said there are plans to add another plant in West Bengal by 2019.
